While eating lunch on Saturday, Lena saw this creature perched outside our balcony.
Crows are often times associated with death and doom, so not sure how to feel bout this. Maybe crows are just highly misunderstood creatures like vegans!
After 3 hrs of attempting and failing to do readings for class in the apartment, we decided to go to Cafe Verde at the People’s Co-op in hopes of more success.
When we got there we saw they were having a students discount weekend 15% off on all items!+a lot of sale promotions! We spent 30 minutes perusing the co-op and buying some goodies which included go raw pumpkin seeds, rabble roaster soybeans and dates (to make more fudge babies).
At the Cafe section of the Co-op, Christina ordered a Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea with Soy Milk
to go with her leftover wrappie that she brought with her from the other night and tried a Stonyfield Strawberry Yogurt. She hasn’t had yogurt in forever since she decided to eat less dairy and this was great!
Lena ordered a Hot Vegan Cocoa with Rice Milk
and since she had her leftovers earlier for lunch, she decided to order her dinner at the cafe. After 15 minutes of indecisiveness, she settled on a BBQ Seitan Wrap.
Verdict?- not a fan of mock meats. It wasn’t bad, but mock meats just aren’t her thang. Whats your feeling on mock meats like tempeh and seitan?
Our plan to leave the apartment to buckle down and study kinda took a detour
After spending an hour eating and perusing the store however we finally hit the books.
We had taken the bus earlier since we didn’t want to lose our parking spot outside of our apartment. However, we forgot to check the times for returning. An hour into studying, we whipped out the schedule to see how long we had until the last bus. Turns out the bus we took to get there was the last bus! By then it was 8PM and cold! Dreading the walk home, we studied for a half an hour more and then decided it was best to head out before it got colder.
The walk took 25 minutes of blistering winds and numb toes and we were very grateful to be welcomed back into the warm bliss of our apartment.
We spent the next couple hours in front of the tele watching Cheaper by the Dozen, snacking on pretzies and appreciating free heat
Like all weekends, this one flew by and its back to school tomorrow morning for our first full week of the new semester.
Excuse me but can we please rewind to Friday? Or better yet fast forward to the warm sunny summer vacation skies of May?

Oh, I know how you feel. I dread going to school after the weekend. I’m a senior in high school (woo! only a semester left!) and I went back last week. This week is going to be worse because my boyfriend went back to college last night. I was so used to seeing him every day for 3 1/2 weeks! Ahhh!
It’s really cool that your school has a co-op. Earlham (where I am attending next fall) has one too, but it has changed a little since I last visited. I don’t know if it is still up and running. I hope so because I will definitely be going there next year!
i looove seitan because when i make it myself i know eactly whats in it (minimal processed crap), but im not a fan of most other faux-meats because of how highly processed they seem. also i just dont like the flavor of tempeh. sometimes they are good to lure non-vegans into the vegan realm though…like…my fiance…
happy monday beautiful bellas
I saw your recipe on ur site! I’ve been meaning to try it! definitely want to taste it in its purer form!
i’ve got to agree with elise on this one
seitan is AMAZING when you make it yourself. it’s really easy, too, since most of the time is inactive. either way, i don’t look at it as a mock meat, but just a protein source. same with tofu (but not a fan of tempeh) since it’s been a staple in many cultures diet in its own right. “faux meats” at the supermarket gross me out though, since they’re so processed. yuck!
have a lovely day! xox
MmM i love tofu
i def wanna try making my own seitan tho! gotta get on that!
