Holaz today has been a weird eating pattern day. Its 6 o’clock and ive already eaten dinner and am starting homework <–clearly not doing that right at this point since right at this point I am writing this and munching on a fuji apple…I am quickly with lightening speed eating my way through the 30 apples Mama Bella packed in my suitcase before returning to school
I came back from class to an apartment smelling like paint since our kitchen ceiling kinda took a beating when it began leaking water during my shower before break. An hour after inhaling paint fumes…I really hate the smell of paint..I began to feel nauseous and decided that the only way to combat this was to make awesomely smelling food that would overpower the paint smell…yeah thats how this bella’s mind works…that and biochemistry just wasn’t going very far
Well ever since drooling over Mama Pea‘s Post on her Spanish Quinoa, I’ve been wanting to make it:
I used Kitchen Basics Vegetable Stock. I love this stuff! So convenient! 1 box=1 cup. Its low in sodium and fat free. Perfect for when you are making recipes for individual servings!
I didn’t have plain tomato sauce so I used Meijer Organics Mushroom Pasta Sauce
I also didn’t have any onions since I forgot to get them at the market last week…here it is simmering up a delicious storm
After it cooked ONLY 20 minutes…gotta love these fast cooking grains!..i tossed in some corn
I served it along side a Hugh Jass Salad- Romaine Lettuce, broccoflower (I will get back to this), lima beans, corn, green peppers, squirt of honey dijon mustard, balsamic vinegar and lemon juice
YUMMM…spanish fiesta in my mouth complete with a mariachi band…the only thing i wish i had added was chunks of tomato but will be sure to add it with my leftovers tomorrow
Ok now back to the broccoflower…anyone ever try this? I saw this curious little thing at the market last week next to the cauliflower which what i was intending on getting until i saw that is was $4 for a head and the broccoflower was only $1.50…the bargain shopper in me grabbed this unknown veggie with trepidation.
Heres what it looks like cut up
Weirdddd…at first I was worried since I’m definitely not a supporter of GM foods…but I’m not very informed on them so I decided to do some research…turns out broccoflower is not a GM food! *Insert sigh of relief* It is a result of cross-pollination. But apparently broccoli is a GM food! What?!? It is a cross between a pea plant and a cauliflower plant. Hmmm so i guess while i’d like to not be a supporter of GM…i really like broccoli so woops…anyone who is more informed than my random googling want to share some insight on this? Id love to hear it!
Ok so science lesson aside, the verdict on taste? It tastes just like a cauliflower! Seriously, close my eyes and give me both on a plate, and i probably couldnt tell the difference. So $2.50 saved and a very yummy Hugh Jass Salad delivered.
Probably should get back to doing some actual school work…if only I could graduate with a degree in blogging...
I see a very yummy fudge baby in my future…
Do you like my fudge baby face? It’s “so cute i could just bite its little cheeks off” and i plan on doing just that

Awww hehe!
I want to try broccoflower so badly!!!
umm… I am no
